Auchindoun Castle has a rich and tumultuous history, marked by conflict and tragedy.

In 1567, Auchindoun was sold to Sir Adam Gordon. His tenure is noted for his notorious actions during a feud. Sir Adam Gordon gained infamy for the murder of all the occupants of Corgarff Castle in 1571, a brutal act that highlighted the violent rivalries of the time. In retaliation for the massacre at Corgarff, William Mackintosh burned Auchindoun Castle, marking a significant event in the castle's history.

By 1725, Auchindoun Castle had fallen into a state of dereliction, reflecting the decline of its former glory.

Ferghas' Adventures

Ferghas loves history and heard Auchindoun Castle was quite the site. After making his way up the rocky trail he walked along the track and the Castle loomed large and proud in the distance. "What a site" said Ferghas as he walked along. The heat of the day was something else and Ferghas really wanted some shade, as he walked he found comfort in the trees that line the path. The walk up to the castle proved to be a little steep but feeling the heat on his back he bounded up the slope and reached the entrance. "Wow" he thought and walked through the archway. The sun was instantly lost and replaced by pitch black night, he looked around him, all was dark and cool. "goodness, that changed quickly" the castle was a bustle with people and the grandness of the stone work was licked with torch light. It seems pretty busy in here, don't think I will stick around. He looked around again then wandered back out the arch and it was sunlight again. That was different he thought and decided to take in the view front outside the walls before sitting down and having some apple slice sandwiches.
