Ferghas' Adventures
A glorious sunny day dawned, promising the perfect conditions for Ferghas's eagerly anticipated visit to Burghead. Kicking off his adventure, he first stepped into the visitor centre, making a small but worthwhile donation to begin immersing himself in the rich tapestry of the area's Pictish past. Armed with newfound knowledge, he then ventured out to explore the impressive Pictish fort, climbing to its weathered topside where his gaze was rewarded with the unexpected sight of dolphins gracefully splashing in the distant waters. The historical journey continued with a visit to the ancient Pictish Well; a quick stop back in the visitor centre to secure the key, unlocked further layers of history. Indeed, the sheer weight of centuries felt palpable in every stone and around every corner here. With the fort and well thoroughly explored, Ferghas turned his attention to the maritime presence, spotting the imposing "Harvest Reaper" round from the harbour, before wandering through the remarkably old local graveyard, its weathered headstones whispering tales of forgotten lives. The bustling harbour itself was next, and what a sight awaited him there! Shipwrights were meticulously constructing Viking longboats, destined for a movie set. The sheer scale and authenticity of the boats sent a thrill through Ferghas, who watched, utterly captivated and thoroughly excited, as ancient history came to life before his very eyes.
I thought i was just visiting here to see a Well, turns out there is so much more to see and explore 🐮
